Hello I currently have a 12600k and am looking to more future proof my system. I dont really have intentions to buy 15 series once they come right out. I always tend to do my upgrades before the new series, so always an upgrade for me but at the tail end of the generation.
Anyways just as I said I am wondering if it would be worth the upgrade for my cpua to a 14700KF. I dont really do any programs/mods/etc and only really game. Games like call of duty mw3, starfield, hell let loose, the division, and some poorly optimized games like Star Wars jedi survivor and the last of us lol.
I also recently got a new RTX 4070 TI super for $400 and upgraded that from my RTX 3080 10GB. So I am also curious if I created more of a bottle neck with my 12600k and the new 4070ti super.
I game on a 32inch curved 1440p 144hz monitor and have another 27 inch 1080p monitor on the side for background programs.
I am possibly interested in 4k in the future as well.

This is the cpu I am considering:

I do plan on selling my 12600k if I upgrade.

my specs are:
-i5 12600k 3.7 GHz base 4.9GHz Turbo
-ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super Trinity Black Edition DLSS 3 16GB GDDR6X
-CORSAIR - VENGEANCE RGB Series 32GB 3.0GHz DDR4
-MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 ProSeries Motherboard
-2.5TB SSD

on an additional side note, I have had this ram since about 2019 and was wondering if its worth upgrading that as well? Only issue as far as I can see in the specs on msi website that I can only run up to 3200mhz? 3000 to 3200 doesnt seem worth it to me?
Here is the msi page
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-Z690-A-DDR4/Specification

You're on a Z690 platform, you should look at DDR4-3600Mhz ram kits, with tight latencies, should help give you an uplift in performance. As for your processor, how are you cooling it at this moment in your build? Speaking of builds, what is the make and model of your case? The recent gen of Intel aren't any cooler than the previous generation, mind you, hence the cooler/case airflow question.

So I can upgrade to 3600? Because my confusion comes from under detailed specs on the msi website it says;
-4x DDR4 memory slots, support up to 128GB 1
Supports 1R 2133/ 2666/ 2933/ 3200 MHz (by JEDEC & POR)

so I assumed it was just up to 3200...hmm..

And shoot I knew i forgot to list something..i have a corsair icue h100i pro 240mm liquid cooler.
and my case is this
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MDS8L83/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
which I have had for 3 years now.
I have the cpu cooler as exhaust on the top of the case with an additional exhaust fan next to it on the top since there was room. The rear is also exhaust with the two front fans pulling in air at 100% 24/7 by choice.

New CPU keeping these slow memories will not help much. And maybe, as was mentioned before, faster memories will give you precious frames if you have room for it.

12600k usually is enough for 4070TI, specially at 1440p. Are you sure that 4070TI is that away from 100% gpu usage in these games to justify a upgrade?

No the 4070ti super does stay at 98-100% useage during gaming. I have just seen my CPU go to like 65-80% in some games. The poorly optimized games like star wars jedi survivor i will get 80-90% cpu useage and 60% gpu but i know thats partly because the game is a terrible port.

So thats why im questioning the longevity on my cpu and if I created more of a bottle neck for my gpu.
So technically its not a question if my cpu is good anymore which I know the 12600k is very respectable at my gaming situation.
More of would the $380 14700k minus whatever I sell my 12600k be worth the investment for some improvement in gaming and hold some longer longevity before my next goal of upgrading motherboard, ddr5 ram, and the next intel cpu that requires a new socket.

You probably know it, but maybe don't. GPU at 100% usage means that a better CPU/memories will help nothing. CPU usage is not relevent if you don't have really poor 1% or 0.1% low.

Yes, upgrade would help you on Jedi Survivor or any game that runs much below 100% gpu usage. But like you say, it's just bad optimized and maybe a CPU upgrade doesn't even scale properly the gains.

But if this will make you feel better, go for it.

Yeaaah I dont really have poor 1%s unless I am on one of those optimized games. Like with the 3080 on mw3 i was averaging 120-140fps now I get 170-200+ with the 4070ti super. DLLS 3 Quality and max settings everything else.
The only games I get poor fps on are those poorly optimized ones. Even The Last of Us isnt bad anymore after its updates. Maybe drop into the 80s on max settings. Jedi survivor is horrible one right now with drops to 50s-60s sometimes with ray tracing off, but again, <Mod Edit> port.
So it seems like while of course I will get better results in some games with the 14700k, it might just not be worth the $380.

Now you mentioned CPU/Memories..for $65 isnt a big deal, would that really improve anything? Im imaging it really wont honestly. Im just surprised 5 year old ram still holds up vs all these upgraded parts.
I mean I had this ram back when I had an i7 7700k lol

Yeah, I don't think it worth the CPU upgrade. I would not do.

Faster memories would help you in these games where GPU usage keeps very far away from 100%. Maybe 5% to 10% depending on speed. But that's just a guess.

Hmm okay. for $65 and amazons wonderful free returns, since ram is so easy to swap maybe ill buy it and see what it does and return it if its not worth it lmao

So I never really paid any attention to my 1% or 0.1% lows as my fps is usually so high, but I was just playing mw3 and decided to keep an extra eye out. While I was running from 170 or higher fps most of the time, I was getting the occasional QUICK drop to 110-115ish. Honestly I dont even notice it I only saw it because I paid attention to my fps counter after you mentioned it here.
I dont know too much about those fps lows so I dont know if this is an acceptable range or if its something of concern.
