Just bought a 7900 xtx to replace my 2080ti, Someone mentioned that this combo was unplayable on 1440p 240hz due to bottlenecking. I just wanted to check if anyone more knowledgeable has some input regarding this, as it will effect my decision to go 1440 oled vs upgrading from my 12900k/ddr4 to a 7800x3d + ddr5.

Thanks

Hey there,

Don't get hung up on the term 'bottlenecking'. It's misleading at best. You have both a powerful gaming CPU and GPU. Fire up some games, and let rip. As for what hz /FPS you'll get, that depends a lot on the specific game. Some are more CPU limited, others GPU.

I play 1440p with my Ryzen 5600x and 3060ti GPU. In the games I play, I hit around 100+ FPS with high/ultra settings. Your combo would dwarf mine in terms of FPS. I typically play BF2042/COD/GRID racing games, F1 24, PC VR.

You're good, sure the 12900K is not the fastest gaming chip thats currently available, but its still plenty fast, more than fast enough to keep up with the 7900 XTX at 1440P. Are you leaving some performance on the table with that combo? Maybe in some games, but I wouldn't worry about it, you should have no problems playing pretty much any game thats currently available.

Just trying to decide the best course of action, I like the look of that 27'' alienware 360hz oled 1440p. Would you buy the monitor now then later down the line upgrade cpu/ram/mobo?

Thats the course that i would take, upgrade the monitor, then in the future after Zen 5 is out, take a look at the landscape and decide where you want to go from there.
