12GB of DDR3 or 8GB of DDR4?

Should I get 12GB of DDR3-1600Mhz or 8GB of DDR4-3000?
This would be for just gaming.

Dosent matter.
What matter is what processor you are getting, depending on that, you dont have a choice.

Well, more capacity is preferable, but you are comparing apples to oranges. DDR4 cannot fit in a DDR3 slot and vice versa. If you opt for any of these choices, you will have to modify your build likewise

CPU and motherboard dictate DDR3 or DDR4.
