12gb ram 8 useable

I recently got another stick of ram that's a different model than my other one. They both have the exact same speed voltage and stuff and windows recognized the new 4gb stick but it's saying it's hardware reserved and I'm pretty sure a whole stick of ram shouldn't be hardware reserved I've looked everywhere for a solution and I've tried the paging file and ms configuration thing a billion times I'm stumped.

1| Are we dealing with a laptop or a desktop? If the former, then we'll need an SKU/make and model number if the latter then we're going to need the full system's specs.
2| What OS are you on?
3| What is the make and model of both the ram sticks?
4| It's actually bad practice to mix and match ram sticks and although they might look identical they certainly aren't identical in terms of internal construct. It's for this very reason to buy a ram kit.

I am on windows 10 home 64 bit
Im on a desktop
Im pretty broke so i didnt want to get an entire kit but i might sell all my ram to see if i can buy a kit
