I have been researching about 12k PC for a long time. Here is my estimated part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GLscVn Some of my watercooling parts are not finalize yet but I will most probably settile on copper or metal tubing. My gpu will also be changed to the r9390x not the r9290x I typed in the list. The monitors will also be changed to the samsung 4k freesync monitors. Both my cpu and gpu will be OC.

Solution

IF he is doing 12k, he will most likely use many many GPU's (most likely 4), and 4690k doesn't offer enough lanes to even SLI 3 of them, and at that resolution, X4 xfire will start to impact on performance, he'll most likely need a 40 PCI lane CPU, such as 5930k or 5960X.

He won't need the cores sure, but he'll need the lanes.
I don't think even the best psu could handle 4 gpus and an 8-core cpu. 980s are more power efficient and might be doable. Maybe the 390s will be really efficient too. But either way, this is stupid (or silly or whatever). Good luck though.

I am adding two PSU in my case.
