Question 12V Power Connector on Z390 Motherboard?

Hi I have Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Elite motherboard which has two 12V power connectors(1x 2x2 and 1x 2x4).
But I couldn't find suitable connector cable for 2x2 12V power connector, so I only connected 2x4 power connector.

(i.e. I only connected yellow power connector on above image and left red power connector unplugged)

Did I make fatal mistake? I built 9900K system ~3 months ago and everything's been running 100% stable.
Guess I'm just curious if I made a mistake, and I also think it's very weird that I couldn't find suitable cable from my power supply.
I have 1000W Corsair HX1000 Platinum power supply.

p.s. only issue I have atm is that my motherboard is unstable if I select 4000+ memory setting. so I'm running my G.Skill 4133 memory at 3600 CL14 instead.
 
Look for another 2x4 CPU connector in your PSU kit. If there is one you should be able to pull it apart into a 2x2 to make it work. All PSUs have a design like this to be able to facilitate all the different motherboard connections as some only have a 2x2 while others may even have 2 2x4 connections.

Okay, I am a little confused as the Corsair Power supply in question should have 2 x 2 4+4 pin EPS connectors for the CPU power. See picture in description:

So one CPU power connector would fill the full 8 pin slot and the other which breaks into 2 pieces would fit the 4 pin slot...Unless I am making a mistake on the actual PSU you have...

Didn't realize it was the correct cable, because two 4pins are attached together.

Now question is should I plug in this extra cable even tho my PC seems to be running 100% stable?
cos it's gonna be obviously bit of hassle to take mobo and heatsink(Noctua NH-D15) out etc.
also do you think I might be able to run 4000-4266 stable once I plug in this extra cable?

No problems at all. Personally I would attach it even though it might not make a difference unless you are overclocking the 9900K...RAM above 4000 can sometimes be an issue and finicky...Also if you cannot get the RAM to run stable through XMP, then you might need to manually set it up with the correct voltage and CAS etc. settings...

I always find RAM settings to be complicated but others hopefully can jump in and help you as this is a weak area for me...

I guess it's def worth installing the extra 2x2 12V power connector cable, since I can't run XMP with 32GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB 4133 CL19 RAM.
Although 64GB G.Skill Ripjaws V 3200 CL16 RAM fine on XMP settings.

Just connected the second 2x2 12V power connector cable. Only took ~5mins, luckily I was able to put the cable without removing the heatsink or motherboard. :D

Unfortunately it didn't seem to improve anything, I still can't run XMP profile(4133 CL19) and even 4000 is still not bootable. :(

I have 9900K, Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Elite motherboard and 32GB(4x 8GB) G.Skill Trident Z RGB 4133 C19 RAM(2x F4-4133C19D-16GTZR).

Problem is I can't boot with XMP enabled(4133 C19), and also can't boot at 4000, but I can boot at 3800.

Not sure why..??
  • CPU's IMC
  • low-end Gigabyte Z390 motherboard
  • RAM itself

I'm running 3600 C14 1.40v atm manually. (tried 3800 C15 1.40v but wasn't successful)
  • How much slower is 3600 C14 compared to 4133 C19?
  • Should I try 3800 C15 1.45v?
  • Any suggestions on improving RAM speed/performance?

p.s. I bought the RAM second hand, previous owner was able to run XMP settings without any issue on two different setup(X299 & Z390).
He was also able to run 4000 CL15 1.45v on X299(Asus Maximus XI Hero) and 4400 CL18 1.45v on 9700K, Asus Z390 Strix E motherboard.

use a pcie express connector

That's absolutely horrible/downright dangerous advice. Using a PCI-e power connection on the motherboards cpu power connector is likely to fry the board and/or the PSU. Luckily in this case the OP is smart enough to realize that. BTW giving dangerous advice is a bannable offense I suggest you improve your advice.
