12v1 and 12v2 question.

My graphics card calls for 24amps. But the power supply I have has 23 amps on the 12v1 and 20 amps on the 12v2. I have been getting power kernel reboots when gaming, no errors are left in events.

Is the 12v1 line the motherboard 4/8 pin atx? And if so would it be wrong to switch the ends on the 12v1 and 12v2 lines, I know it's still not a full 24, but it's gotta be better than 20 if that is the case?

What power supply do you have? The 24A requirement on your GPU is for the system as a whole, the GPU itself doesn't require remotely that much power. Based on those rail ratings you should have plenty of power for that system; however, there are some PSUs that are rated at cool temperatures and just can handle it at 40C+ which your case will get to.

What are your full system specs?

The 24 pin ATX connector, ATX auxiliary connector, molex connectors, sata connectors and PCI-E power connectors all draw their +12V supply from the same 12V rails on the power supply. The power supply manufacturer aims to balance the load between the two rails. The two rails don't correspond to two different cables from the power supply. Note also that the video card can draw up to 75W from the PCI-E slot before power is required from auxiliary PCI-E power connectors.

In addition to the rating on the individual +12V rails, there is usually a combined current limit for these rails together which is less than the individual limits added together.

TR2 series supplies are very very poor.

Allow 40W for other components and a maximum of 80% of rated power from PSU.
Minimum power supply requirements 350W, 29A on the combined +12V rails.

The specs for your power supply provide more than enough, but Thermaltake make rubbish power supplies.
I suggest you get yourself a decent 500W power supply.

I had a xion 700 in there till a couple days ago....These power kernel reboots, happen only when gaming.

It too had 21a on the 12v1 and 22 on the 12v2. Which you say is plenty of power. Last thing to swap is motherboard.

You'll notice Xion in the tier 5 list above as well.
The graphics card doesn't start to draw any substantial power until it is loaded, hence why this occurs during games and not just on the desktop.

Problem solved, got a new psu with 49 amps on the 12v rail and all seems well.
