[SOLVED] 13 Gen or stay AM4 for B350 PC mate?

Hey so I have a Ryzen 5 1600, MSI B350 PC MATE, LPX 3200 MHz RAM and a 2060.

I am currently interested in upgrading the CPU. I use my machine to play Battlefield1, Control and other cinematic games (quality matters to me, not fps) and AA games. Also for dev & virtualisation.

I wonder, with my b350, should I get a 4000 / 5000 Ryzen Chip or get a new mainboard and 13 gen Intel?

I am EXTREMELY confused as to whether my board even supports anything above 3000, the internet says no, MSI's own site says it can even go up to a 5900X <-- Does the CPU speed mean my board will not be able to turbo boost up to +4GHz?

I do plan on overclocking a bit and want to buy an AIO as a result of that and mostly fir cooling. <-- Will the board even be able to handle that?

New Board necessary?	Maybe (for now +0€,) => 100-220€	Yes (+100€) => 400€
AIO	+100€ => 200-320€	+100€ => 500€

Total (if my board supports 4000-5000 series): 200-320€ during sale for CPU and Corsair AIO.

Total new Intel 13th: 500€

which is pretty hefty and nullifies Intel for me but then again, maybe my board doesn't support 4000 or 5000 series Ryzen which means +100 on the AMD side.
Maybe someone will say "Get 12 gen it's cheaper in bundle or Windows 10 doesn't support E Cores".

PS: (My case only allows 155mm [sub some mm for clearance] so any noctua d15 arguments are meaningless. I also want to have a water cooler for the first time).

It depends on your budget. Intel 12th or 13th generation are certainly great options but a popular option seems to be on the older boards like yours is to update the bios and pick up a 5700x for example. I have an asrock ab350 pro 4 board with a 5900x installed, just keep in mind it’s going to be harder to cool down and the vrms on some of those b350 boards may not handle a 5900x to easily even though the board may technically support it. So that’s why the 5700x seems popular since it’s 8 cores but is only a 65 watt part.

I’m using air cooling at the moment but have an aio on the way so hopefully that will help my system out to tame the 5900x a bit more easily.

With the recent launch of AMD 7000 CPUs are there any 5000 series CPUs on your used market?

Honestly that's your best bang for the buck. Something like a 5600G/5600/5600X/5700G/5700X would perform very nicely for not much $$

TH broke continuity with their 13th gen review, so you get two charts to compare, but something like a 5600X is about 80% of the performance of the chart topper at 1080p, and 90+% at 1440p.

I've nevet bought used pc parts. I don't trust sellers and just don't want to end up with a broken item (whether tomorrow or 3 months), on top of that losing hundreds of euros.

The less expensive B760 boards and locked 13 gen cpu's are due for release this January.

I've never purchased used PC components online but some people have had good luck and some not so much.

It's hit or miss when buying used parts. Sometimes they are being sold because the owner no longer wants/needs them, other times it's because there is something wrong with the parts.

If I were looking for a faster CPU, and I had an AM4 motherboard, I would pick one of the Ryzen 5000 series CPUs to buy. They should all stay fairly inexpensive over the next year or so, going on sale here and there.
