$130+ 23" Decent monitor suggestions please?

I hope that I'm posting in the right forum. It seems like I am.

So, I'm getting a new computer but I don't know what monitor to get, and I would appreciate if anyone could help me out.

Price rage: $130 - $170 (Lower is better)

When I'm planning on buying: Anywhere until now to late November

What I would like: 22" - 25" and 1920 x 1080 resolution. Put simply, I want the best that my money can buy, but I'm willing to sacrifice in order to prevent maxing out my price range.

What I'm using it for: Gaming, web browsing, movies, photo editing, word processing, video watching, etc.

Someone told me that you want to look for 1920 x 1080 resolution, 5ms response rate, LED-backlighting, and VESA mounting.

Beyond that, I don't really know what else to say, which is why I have the following questions:

1) What does one look for in a (gaming) monitor?
2) I have a 1440 x 900 19" at least 4 year monitor. It's held it's weight, and although it does have a few problems, I would like to be able to use it as a second monitor. Is this advisable? Would it be a hassle to have a smaller monitor with a larger one? Is this fully feasible?
3) Is there anything I should know that I haven't asked about?
4) What are your suggestions?

If your not going to be gaming a ton I suggest this monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005342 due to it's use of an IPS panel which has better color/viewing angles.

1) You want resolution, fast GTG times, and a decent refresh rate.

2) You could do it, but it would be awkward with two different sized monitors at two different resolutions.

3) If you can, use DVI over VGA as VGA is prone to interference at high resolutions (1920x1080 or so).

4) Go for a reputable brand, and a monitor is not a place you want to skimp (you often get what you pay for).
