1333 ram recognized as 1066 !!!

Hi everyone;

Just got my new pc together but when i go into the bios it says that my ram is only 1066 and not 1333 as it's supposed to be, so why is this happening and is my ram really working at 1066 or the motherboard just can't recognize it correctly?

here's my full specs:

Phenom II X3 720 BE
MSI MA790GX-G65
OCZ Reaper DDR3 4GB (2*2GB) 1333 MHz
OCZ StealthXstream 500W

go into the advanced settings on your BIOS and see if you can find where you adjust your RAM timings. There, you should be able to increase the divider to its correct settings.
Each mobo vendor has a different setup, but the most common is hitting delete before the BIOS posts to get into the BIOS options

I found 2 things in the bios regarding the memory:

1. Advanced DRAM configuration: - DRAM timing mode
- DRAM drive strength
- DRAM advance control
- 1T/2T memory timing

2. FSB/DRAM ratio

Everything is set to auto

sry but i've never done any overclocking or changed any settings regarding the ram or cpu before

Are you sure it says 1066 not 10666? Because PC3 10666 = DDR3 1333. Anyway, download CPU-Z and look what does it say in Memory section. If Dram Frequency is 533Mhz than your ram runs at ddr 1066, if its 667Mhz than it runs at ddr 1333.

If it is 1066 than you probably need to set the speed timings and voltage manually. Use cpu-z and post the screenshot of Memory tab here.

I went through the bios and changed the FSB / DRAM Ratio to 1:3.33 instead of 1:1 and it said that my memory is running now at 1333, so i think that did it, didn't think it would be that easy but what will happen if i increased it even more like to 1600 for example, will it make a real difference in performance and more importantly will the system be stable.

It's currently running at 8-9-9-20 timings. It won't run at the correct timings until you manually set them as well as the voltage.

as i said this is my first time in all this, so i really don't know how to do that exactly.

Your motherboard owners manual should have instructions on how to set the RAM timings and voltage.
