Question 13600KF VS i7-14700KF RTX 3060 12GB

So I want the best performance in 1080p with my 3060 12gb, and which is better between the i7-14700KF and the I5-13600kf ? With the I5-13600kf I'd take it with the ROG STRIX Z790-A GAMING WIFI D4

The i7 is the better one. That i5 is not bad at all but the i7 is better. Also needs more power. Up to 253W (vs 181W for the i5).

I get the impression that it would hardly matter.

That's with a 4090. The gap between the 2 cpus - however small it is - will shrink as you go further and further below that gpu.

Yes. The i7 is slightly better so you get max performance. But the i5 is so good at 1080p for your needs, it offers max value. The performance "loss" you take by not buying the i7 is minimal. Maybe even not noticeable.

I5-13600K has 20 threads and a passmark rating of 38442. The single thread rating is 4187.
For most games that are cpu centric, the single thread rating is more important.
The 14700K is better in every way. 28 threads, 53464/4506 rating.

And when buying such a processor, do not be penny wise and pound foolish by saving $25 or so on a F suffix processor.
Having integrated graphics will save you when trying to diagnose gpu issues.

So the goal is to buy a new motherboard + CPU, move existing components over and run it for awhile? If so then your GPU is going to have a significantly larger impact then CPU and if your staying with a 3060 then the high CPU isn't going to do much for you. Go with the 13600KF and revisit in a few more years.

Just to put things in perspective, I'm running a 12600kf + 3080 and hit 144FPS on a 1440P screen.

There's Intel® Application Optimization Overview for the I7-14700k and I've seen that it can give you extra fps.

If you were to turn down the resolution/quality does the frame rate improve. That would indicate that you are GPU bound. Note be careful about chasing frame rates doesn't do much good to get more frames than your monitor can actually display.

Agreed, you need to determine whether it is the CPU holding you back, or the GPU. Use something like MSI Afterburner's OSD, or CapframeX to see what your CPU and GPU usage are while gaming.
