1366 x 768 resolution on tv

I have a laptop with 1366 x 768 screen resolution and i try to play a video on 36 inch tv
the video quality looks not so good, and i try to play the same video using vono player by pendrive, the video quality looks better... is this true?or just my imagination?
so can i make my laptop to 1920 x 1080?(sorry for my broken english)

it may come down to looking at your tv manual and see what resolutions it supports under tv and pc

some hdtv's don't do well for pc use and may not list pc resolutions as supported
