$1400 gaming rig

Hi I'm a newcomer to this forum and one to computer building. It's going to be my first build, so what do you guys think?


Approximate Purchase Date: In a few weeks

Budget Range: $1200-$1400

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming and watching movies

Parts Not Required: Keyboard, mouse, OS

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Offline (Frys) or if need newegg or tigerdirect

Country of Origin: USA

Parts Preferences: Like to stay with an Intel processor

Overclocking: Probably

SLI or Crossfire: No

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080, 1920x1200)

Additional Comments: Nothing much, just that it has to be EPIC!


1. About overclocking, is it safe? I'm probably going to overclock it to 4.5 or 4.7 Ghz, is that a good amount. And do I have to overclock it for games to run more smooth. Lastly, would a Hyper 212+ have the same performance as a Thermaltake Frio or Cooler Master V6GT?
2. Should I stick with a GTX 570 or get an ASUS GTX 560 Ti
3. How's the cable length for my power supply?

I would of used amazon, but there is a passing law/bill or something and I live in CA, so I will have to pay taxes anyways. (And Shipping)

ya why_me told me that too and he showed me an article that said when it would be enforced when i we had to start paying taxes on the things we bought there. just a week ago (that is after the date the article said the taxes would be enforced) i tried to buy something and no taxes. really i dont see why they made that bill. it just makes me not want to spend money. idiots in the CA legislature. and i just checked right now and it says estimated taxes to be collected: 0$. seeing a 0 by that phrase is always nice. 😀

amazon has a no questions asked return policy. it is impeccable. and they match prices before taxes so they dont really match them....

1. overclocking is safe i think 4.5 ghz should be enough for any game. any moe would just be a power waster

2. stick with the 570 if you can afford it

3. i already told you my opinion on that psu.....
