[SOLVED] 144 hz displays nothing, 120hz works

Today my display turned pitch black and after some troubleshooting I realized that at 120hz, it worked fine. I'm wondering what could be causing this. Whenever I turn back to 144hz, it just shuts down. I used to be able to run this monitor at 145 hz (1hz overclock) at 2560X1440. I made a custom resolution and I can only reach 141 hz at that resolution now. If I go for 1080p instead, I can reach 147 hz. So the refresh rate doesn't seem to be the issue. Could it be my ports or cable that can't handle the signal (getting old) ?

My monitor is a BenQ XL2730Z.
Graphic card is a 1070, got a i5 4590 as well.

Yeah, there's a chance it's cable.

I would suggest using Displayport over HDMI if that's what you are using.
