144 Hz Monitor: 1080p or 1440p

I currently have a GTX 1060 6 GB and a i5-7500. I am going to upgrade my monitor, and I can't decide between a 144 Hz 1080p or 144Hz 1440p monitor. The 1440p is only $50 more. I want to get a 1440p, but I don't really want to have to turn down my settings to be able to reach 60 Hz on the 1440p monitor, especially since it is capable of reaching 144 Hz. I feel like it is a waste to have a 144 Hz monitor, but run lower than 60 fps. I play a lot of Overwatch, CS:GO, and I was looking to play some other titles like GTA V and PUBG. Is it worth it to spend the extra $50, play at 1440p, but with lower textures, or just stay at 1080p and play at above 60 fps.

Thanks,

It's still nicer to have the 1440p option. You can always go down in resolution but I wouldn't recommend it.

A good monitor with 1440p can last you 5++ years easily while with the 1080p you might be tempted to replace it sooner.

You will most likely, even if not "anytime soon", upgrade other parts of your pc way before having to think of a new monitor again. Therefore it's nice to have a future proof monitor in my opinion.

I don't plan on upgrading my 1060 anytime soon though, since it's relatively new
