144 hz monitor going back to 60 hz on reboot, weird colors

So I got this really sweet 144 hz monitor not too long ago, and so far I'm loving it. You can really see the difference. The monitor also has a really nice handle that you can use to move the monitor around. Really worth the 313 euros I paid for it.

However, I've also encountered some rather annoying issues. Firstly, whenever I reboot the computer, for some reason sometimes the display will go back to the 60 hz setting instead of the 144 one.

Not only does it do this, but also on bootup the colors look really weird, as if they were overexposed in a way. To fix this, I use the BenQ's program "Display Pilot". The way that I can make the colors look "normal" again is rather weird, though. What I do is simply go to the Color section, where I navigate to Color Temperature. Interesting in this is that to fix the color issue, I don't even move the slider, just click where it is at that moment and magically the colors look good again.

I've tried googling these issues, but haven't come up with any solutions so far. I'd appreciate some help on this.

Are you using HDMI or Display Port? If its HDMI, make sure it is using HDMI 1.4 hardware, and set the black level to high. (In some monitors the setting is called Input and the options are Video and PC.) The overexposure you're seeing is the bad default colour correction of HDMI hardware for YUV while you're using RGB (PC).

Sorry for the late answer.

I'm actually using a DVI cable right now, could that be an issue?
