Im struggling inside going back and forth on what I think will be better. I play mostly h1z1 and some big single players like Witcher and Shadow of mordor. Ive only had one persons advice and am looking for others to help please. Im stuck. Theres an Acer monitor 144hz (it has its flaws) but its only 180 right now. Wondering if i should jump on it or just go for something more expensive. Nothing above 300 please. Thanks everyone.

I have a 1440p 144hz monitor and 1 980 ti and I can push 120+ fps on almost all new gen games at 1440p res. The 970s in sli are about as good as 1 980 ti in benchmarks. The only issue is SLI support. You could definitely achieve 1440p with your cards and also could achieve 144 fps on 1080p if you chose to opt out one of the options. Honestly I cant go back to 1080p or 60hz every again. If I were you I would sacrifice the 144hz and go for the 1440p since you listed games that wouldn't benefit from 144hz very much. I play witcher at a solid 60fps on ultra but tend to dip every now and then so you will not achieve 144fps anyway and in shadow I believe I was getting 100fps.
thanks for the input. I realize it wont be running 144 fps locked in. What im wondering is how much drastic change will i see in a 3rd/first person like h1z1 going from 60 hz to 144 hz monitor. I like to have stable fps even if it doesnt look as good.

You only get the benefit of the smoothness of a 144hz monitor if you have the horsepower to push the frames you need. Otherwise it's worthless. Your FPS pretty much needs to be above 120 at all times. Framerate changes and dips are much more noticable at these higher refresh rates. Which is why 144hz monitors are almost exclusively used by Esports gamers. Competitive games where 144hz gives you an edge, and also easy to run. Most popular titles are CSGO. Mobas(Dota, SCII, LoL), Battlefield, COD etc.

If you want to play the latest triple a games, at 144hz. You're going to want to be packing something like dual 980tis. Or something similar from AMD. At that price it's hardly worth it. At 144hz stick to easy to run games.

ya ive got 970s sli but i also dont mind to put settings lower to up my fps. Just like to hear from some people who have a 1440p and a 144hz and see which one they turn to for gaming.

Thanks for the advice. Ill most likely go with the 1440p then. Maybe in a couple years things like the acer predator wont be so expensive. Would a 1440p monitor look ridiculously out of place next to a 1080p monitor in windows. If so i may just sell my 1080p monitor and get another 1440p later down the road.

Not at all. I have a 1080p monitor next to mine. Of course you can tell which one is superior but I use my other one for multitasking, not multi-monitor gaming. IF you can fork out a little extra this a great monitor unless you have already found one you like.

This one is under your budget:

1440p monitors are more towards the $400 mark. You can get a good 144hz 1080p for around $320. The choice is yours.

thats the exact one i was looking at simply because i have the 1080p 60hz version of this acer monitor and the are very similar and not too bad on price. Ive been back and forth a thousand times so hopefully i can stick to this decision. I guess theres a reason the higher res monitors are more expensive than a regular 144hz tn panel. I heard higher res helps with aliasing too

I think benQ is better of the two. I have a benQ and its amazing. I would definitely think about spending the extra $50.

isnt it an extra 100?

Right but your budget says nothing over $300, and for an extra $100 over the Acer, its worth it.
