Hello everyone i would like to upgrade my GPU to be able to run minimum constant 144fps on most my games like overwatch and apex legends etc I have no idea which one to buy and my budget is limiter would be 500 and under if possible here are my specs :

Current GPU : AMD Radeon r7 370 series
Intel core i5-4670k cpu x4
Motherboard : MSI z87-G45

Thank you let me know if you need more informations .

In overwatch you might not achieve a minimum of 144fps due to the cpu

No idea about apex legends. Modern AAA games are stressing out quad cores so depending on what the other games are you need to consider that.

Anyway a GTX1070 or RTX2060 would be great choices but the 2060 is more likely to run into cpu limitations as it’s a stronger gpu.

At 1080p your cpu would become a limit even if you had an rtx 2080ti. I would buy an rtx 2070 or 2060 to upgrade. You may need a platform upgrade to a new ryzen 5 or i5 system in order to fully utilize a new gpu such as a 2070. Your old cpu may need upgraded to a 4770k or new platform.

so in your opinions i would need a 4770k cpu minimum to make it worth buying another gpu ? what are the price range of cpus i know nothing about them

Edit : I dont need my graphic all in high , im a gamer who cares more about my fps and how fluid is my game over perfect graphics its just that with my system right now i cant use a 144hz monitor which i really want and heard amazing things about

Game settings don’t have much impact on the cpu. If you are cpu limited the only real options are overclocking the cpu or upgrading it.

Personally I’d get the 2060 and try it. However if you are unhappy with the cpu limitations you are looking at a new platform, investing in an old 4770k/4790k isn’t worth it. However a modern cpu will require new a new motherboard and DDR4 RAM. 144fps in modern AAA games requires a modern mid-high end cpu. Quad cores are entry level now.

so i would be better investing in a complete new pc instead ?

You are saying a minimum of 144fps, there are many games you won’t achieve that. If you lower your expectations and depending on the specific games you may be ok just dropping in a 2060. However if you are not happy with performance then yes it’s a new cpu/motherboard/RAM is the only option. Running high FPS on modern AAA games requires a strong modern cpu, ideally 8600k/9600k/Ryzen 2600 or above.
