144 Opteron = What memory? Can O/C with PC3200 to 2.2mhz.

I have 3 questions I could not find answers too.

System Spects at the bottom of page.

1st.

I have an Opteron 144 with PC3200 and can only O/C it to 2.13 with stock cooling. The memory I know is holding me back. So my question is, what memory can I use higher then DDR400?

2nd.

My motherboard is ABIT AN8 SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX. Some reviews I see, this mobo is PCI-E 8x, other it says 16x. Is there or would there be any difference with my Connect3d x1800gto?

3rd.

I get 3D Mark 05 - 7106
3D Mark 06 - 2914

Is this good for this system, I expected better. I know 06 is geared toward dual cores. Is dual core systems really that much better?

OCZ makes some nice RAM. Platinum Edition is awesome for OC'ing. Crucial memory is good too, but it's very expensive. As for the motherboard, I'm guessing that the 8x refers to each slot when it's in SLI mode. The board has 16 PCI-E lanes, and when in SLI, each slot uses 8 lanes, so it's 8x for each card. As you're not using SLI, your card will run in full 16x PCI-E. I don't know about your third question.

Try altering your ram divider in bios , my sons runs at 2.34 with PC2700 ram on a asrock dual 939 ( not the greatest motherboard ) Look in your motherboard manual .

Wow, I have never heard of this! Thanks man. 2.21mhz stable now. I tried to go higher, but computer reset to default settings.

Every article on this with a Google search made this to be soo complicated yet it's not.

Thanks very much for your help! 2.21 just by changing default memory from 400mhz to 333mhz, and bumping the multiplier up to 250x9 = 2.21mhz. F'N nice O/C, and runs at the same temp's 39 degrees!!

From a 61,000 in AuquaMark3 to 72,000. Only benchmark I've tried since it's short. 3dmark05 and 06 here in a bit. I will edit to let you know.

Try uping the voltage (cpu + ram) a bit .My opteron 146 runs at 2.8(10 x 280) with 3200 ram Cpu at 1.52v ram at 2.7v

Try this:
Ram: 1,33x
CPU: 9x
FSB/HTT: 300MHz!!!!

This will give you: 9x300 = 2700MHz

Then you´ll need a lot more voltage on the cpu too...

If you want to do something similar without having to play with the divider you could get DDR500 ram as well. Less need to play with the ram voltage too.

Also, it's not that dual core is that much greater right now with todays available games and applications but, in the future they will be.

Thanks guys! My core is 27C, even at 2.21, I will try tomorrow to get it higher with 133 mem devider.

I have thought of going higher memory DDR500. Will try the first option @133. If that doen't help, maybe next month the DDR500.

It's summer, and all the extra $ is going towards my car MODS for the track for now.

my rams are also the cheapest Kingston rams but they work just fine at DDR500@250 MHZ with stock voltage (3-3-3-8) 2T

Okay lets say you run ur mem divider @ 133 With DDR(double data rate) which means your ram is running at 266Mhz. Now Lets say you oc your CPU by .. 34 Mhz increase.. it will also make your ram run 34Mhz higher, which means (133x2(DDR)+34Mhz)= 300Mhz DDR.
So whenever you Overclcok your CPU you overclock you ram and other things on your motherboard...
So wat im saying is that your Kingston ValueRAM 1GB(512x2) DDR400 may not run over its rated DDR400 so therefore you have to lower your mem divider (ex 133 - 266 - 333- 400 - 500- ect) to OC your CPU higher..
I would recommend not setting it higher then rated speeds unless you got lifetime warranty 😉

And you say your PCI-E is only 8x? are you sure its not AGP? I was sure that ONLY PCI-E stuff is 16x.. anyway that could also be the downfall is that motherboard not able to to put your other hardware to its max potential...

I obviously know how to use the mem divider if you could just have looked over the post...

Moving the MHZ by 34 would then be a 68mhz OC.. So 233 would really be 330mhz NOT 300mhz..

So if I didn't know that and read your post, I would have pushed it to Way to hard, then I would be looking for a new processor or motherboard or both..

I hope you understand now, as I researched on Google to figure out the Ram Dividers! After so many people made it confusing as hell because of people thinking they had it down pat, posting how to do it. Well, you get my point.
