I am looking to upgrade my old 60hz 1080p monitors...

I have been searching high and low and watch countless hours of reviews on 1440p, 144hz, 27" monitors and I am absolutely lost for choice so I am hoping you lovely people could help me make a final decision.

Specs I am looking for on the Monitor:

1440p
144hz
1ms
27" (maybe 24" if it's a better option)
£300-400

Any input is much appreciated even if it is teaching me a thing or two and directing me in a different direction!.

Thanks everyone who helps!.

What you're looking for also depends on your GPU. If you have an AMD GPU, just go with FreeSync. Nvidia, either go for G-Sync, but check and see if the FreeSync monitor is one of the ones that will work with Nvidia's solution (it's fairly new and this specific question isn't an area of expertise for me).

I am running a 2080, so Gsync but ye free sync will work with most of the new monitors

After more research I am stuck between the following two monitors... just one is 1440p and the other is 1080p so not very comparable...

ASUS VG278QR 27 Inch FHD (1920 x 1080) Esports Gaming Monitor, 0.5 ms, Up to 165 Hz, DP, HDMI, DVI, FreeSync, Low Blue Light, Flicker Free, TUV Certified https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07KKBDQCL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_pGk7DbQRFFRPS

Or

ASUS TUF Gaming VG27BQ HDR Gaming Monitor, 27 Inch WQHD (2560x1440), 0.4 ms, 155 Hz, ELMB Sync, G-SYNC Compatible, Adaptive-Sync, HDR10 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07VW9ZD6Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_TGk7Db96VN350

So I suppose my next question would be since I am running a GTX 2080 is it worth going for the 1440p or just sticking with 1080p?

I'd definitely go 1440p. If you look at the benchmarks for a 2080 at 1080p, you'll find it hitting 80-140 FPS in a broad range of titles at 1440p. Not Metro Exodus, but even the 2080 Ti doesn't hit 80 in that noted GPU shredder. And one of the purposes of adaptive sync technology is making it so you don't need to hit 144 for nice 144 Hz monitor performance.

(Note that the link is to a 2080 Super article, but all the benchmarks also include the 2080 and it was more recent than the original 2080 article).

At 27 inch I wouldn’t go 1080p, I made that mistake before and regretted it. It’s fine for games and movies but for anything with text (websites, Office applications, etc...) I found the lack of sharpness from the low dpi really annoying.

A 2080 is very strong and if you want more FPS you don’t have to run max/ultra settings. I did go 2080S but only because I found a great deal on BF, otherwise I was going to pick a 2070S which is darn close to the 2080.

A colleague of mine uses a 39 inch TV as a computer monitor at 1080p. When I saw it, it looked like someone had smeared the screen with a layer of butter. Though in fairness, his eyesight is rather lousy, so he may not notice.

Ye that's was I was more leaning towards the 1440p especially at 27. I really like the look of the Gigsbyte Aorus CV27Q but it retails at £500 in UK which is shiz since its $380 in US.... haha

I have left it now between the.

ASUS TUF Gaming VG27BQ HDR Gaming Monitor, 27 Inch WQHD (2560x1440), 0.4 ms, 155 Hz, ELMB Sync, G-SYNC Compatible, Adaptive-Sync, HDR10 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07VW9ZD6Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_uRn7Db8NX1MSS

And,

LG

https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07XVYGWSM/ref=pe_3044161_185740101_TE_item?tag=georiot-de-new-21&ascsubtag=tomshardware-7371810654355941351-21

I am more leaning towards the ASUS as I can get it in the UK and have it here before christmas.

Does anyone have any other input on WHY I shouldn't get the ASUS? Any Cons?

And thanks to everyone who commented you have definitely helped me out here!

pick me, no pick me, no I said it first...oh c'mon...pick me...

I think that's why Tom's Hardware picked the Aorus, which is a good buy because of the price. IPS tech is superior, but not when the Aorus is this good.

Would you believe that I broke my LG 34UC79G-B while moving?
Now I'm waiting for the LG 34GK950F-B to go down a little bit in price...alas...

oh well...

cheerio

I really liked the LG 27GL850 but isn't in UK so haha, I am happy with my purchase of the Aorus so we shall see how it goes in the next few days! But I am going from cheap 60hz 1080p monitors so I'm sure I wont disappointed haha
