Hello,

I plan to get a new monitor, moving from 1080p 60hz to something better for gaming. I'm also going to buy the new 11 Series GTX 1180 in end of August or September. My other specs are intel core i7 8700k and 16GB DDR4 RAM.

I only use my PC for gaming and web-surfing, and like to play all of the famous and new games, both multi and singleplayer for fun, on Ultra settings.

I never had the chance to try 144Hz, nor a higher resolution. Except the refresh rate and resolution, a must for me is the new monitor to have G-Sync and IPS panel also. The maximum allowed screen size for my room is 27 inches.

The main questions are:

Will I see difference between 1080p and 1440p and is going to be a big one? Also from 1440p to 4K? My current monitor is 24 inches, the new is planned to be 27. I play from 55 - 60cm to the monitor.

Will I see a difference between 60hz ( no g-sync ) to 144-165hz ( with g-sync). I know it's going to be a difference in the FPS games but will it change the things better than the 1080p60hz? Also, about the other games, which aren't that competitive like the FPS ones? For example GTA V, Assassin's Creed, is there going to be a difference between 60 and 144hz?

I hope to get answers and finally decide which to get, mostly between 4k 60hz and 1440p 144hz...

Thank you.

Solution
4k fairly pointless at 27 inch imo.

With your gpu & a new 1180 series gpu when they release 1440p 144htz at 27inch is exactly where you want to be .

& yeah 100htz+ with gsync is immensely impressive no matter what the game type.

ETA of 1180 will be end of September, it will cost about $1500 - from the Evidence I can find on the net, so you still have more than 2 months to wait. If you have 2 months to wait, you may as well start looking when there is an official release date as things will change as always with 2 months of technology coming out.

Thank you for the answer.

So in this case, I stopped by ASUS PG279Q, IPS, 1440p165Hz G Sync.

This monitor is going to do the job well, right?

Hello,

just got the following display, it's a very very huge step than my old 1080p 60hz,

1440p is so much better than 1080p and especially the refresh rate of 144hz is an awesome experience.

The only question I have is about G-Sync, should it always stay enabled?

For example, CS:GO runs at 200+ fps, even then should it stay enabled or only when the games are running below 144fps?

Thanks for the answer!

I know this is an old thread at this point, but in case anyone else stumbles upon it looking for the same answer, I'll give some input.

Yes, G-Sync should always remain on, because G-Sync makes your refresh rate vary and adjust to match the FPS of the game you are playing.

If the game is running below 144Hz, than G-Sync helps prevent stutter.

If the game is running above 144Hz, then G-Sync helps prevent screen tearing.

In short, you should always keep it enabled, unless you have a good reason not to!

Hope that helps!
