I decided to get a GTX 1070. Yay! I plan to game at 1440p. More Yay!

My question is do I need g sync and or 144hz? I play mostly RPG's. The only FPS games I really play are Overwatch, and Borderlands (which isnt really the same thing)

And if I do need 144hz and g sync is there an affordable one? or would I be better off with an IPS?

Solution
for the games you play, you don't really need Gsync.
you will have a great gaming experience with 1440p/60Hz/IPS screen.

with AAA games you can stay at 60FPS (when not possible just turn a setting or two down) in order to take advantage of Fast Sync (research on your own, only available with Pascal cards) so you won't really need Gsync as much as others...

your priorities should be in this order:
1. 1440p: will provide a sharper image, nice resolution for 27" screens
2. IPS: very nice colors and screen quality.
3. 144Hz : smooth gameplay for FPS titles like Overwatch and 144FPS or close are easy to achieve in those games with a 1070.
4. Gsync: This is more useful for people with a 1060 or a 970 (or even older cards) who want to...
IDK, if I were playing those games I wouldn't get a g-sync monitor tbh. You should be getting 120+ fps anyways if you have a good cpu, g-sync is only a big difference under 60fps. If you want to play a lot of AAA titles at max settings then it's a different story.

My cpu is an i5 3470. and I dont need them to me MAX ULTRA but I would like very high.

G-Sync is nothing more than a small pcb + chipset added into a monitor. But, what it does is sync the fps output of the nvidia gpu with the monitor, almost eliminating any possible tearing or ghosting. Some games, this'll be a bonus, others it won't phase at all. If you have an AMD gpu, G-Sync won't do much of anything, neither would a freesync monitor on a nvidia gpu. Then again, if you have gone to the trouble and expense of pairing a 1440p/144Hz Monitor with a gtx1070, you might as well go all in for all the options, you aren't looking at a budget gaming machine on 1080p.

Could you give me a brand that is good or something like that? My funds are somewhat limited as well.
