Question 1440p display outputting HDMI of console to 720p

I have an Asus MG279 as a second monitor for my PC and I hooked up my buddy's Xbox to it and for some reason it will only output to 720p 60. It's a 1440p monitor so I'm curious as to why this is. Any ideas? I've perused the OSD menu and can't find anything that makes sense.

Did you go into the Xbox settings and make sure it it set to the proper resolution?
