So its been a while since I've looked into monitor technology and I recently heard about FreeSync as I have a AMD GPU (R9 290) so I'm considering and upgrade from my standard 24" 1080p 60Hz monitor.

The monitor would be used for Gaming, 3D Art, Painting, Movies/ TV Shows etc.

I'm looking at a 27" 1440p Monitor but I'm wondering if
144Hz over 60Hz
and
IPS over TN
is worth the extra cash.

Here are my options for FreeSync Monitors:
- LG 29UM67-P (29" 21:9 ultrawide - IPS - 60Hz - 2560 x 1080 - Contrast Ratio 5M:1) $500 AUD
- Acer XG270HU (27" - TN - 144Hz - 1440p - Contrast Ratio 100M:1) $700 AUD
- BenQ XL2730Z (27" - TN - 144Hz - 1440p - Contrast Ratio 12M:1) $800 AUD
- ASUS MG279Q (27" - IPS - 144Hz - 1440p - Contrast Ratio 100M:1) $1000 AUD

Ideas? Opinions? These types of screens are quite new so maybe wait and price will drop a lot?
Thanks!

Solution
The LG is not really a Freesync monitor, it has a very narrow fps space where Freesync works, so I cannot suggest it. As of now, I can only suggest the expensive AHVA Asus, since the price difference between this and other 144Hz models is relatively small.

However, soon cheaper 1080p monitors with Freesync will be available, if you find the Asus too expensive (it is worth it though) you can wait for their arrival.

I went all out and got the Acer XB270HU which is a G-sync monitor and has everything you could want (27" 1440p, IPS Panel, Full 30-144Hz under G-Sync) The LG 29UM67-P has all the same BUT Free-Sync only goes from 35-90. Might not be much difference but gives me a reason to upgrade to a GTX 980 G1 and sell off my R9 290.

It is a great monitor indeed. If you are going to buy another Gpu though, consider buying an 980ti. It has better value than 980 and it is a reasonable upgrade to 290, while the 980 is a somewhat sidegrade to 290 (diagonalgrade new term ) 😛

Ok thanks guys. I got the Acer XB270HU and I had a look at the difference between the 980 and 980ti (both as a gigabyte windforce card)
GTX 980 is $750AUD
GTX 980ti is $1100AUD

I dont think its worth the extra $350
I also compared the R9 290 and GTX980 and yeah its not a ton better but it is better and more reliable. I've always had wavy performance with AMD cards so I think I'll be good with the GTX 980
