1440p gaming on 4k laptop?

Anyone know if I get a gaming laptop with a 4K screen if I can game at 2560x1440? Will a gtx980m be powerful enough to, if I can?

for a single 980m, I would only go for 1080p maxed or 1440p high, because the 980m is somewhere between the (desktop) 960 to the 970, and in that section, 1080p is good.
and yes, you can run 1440p, in the game's settings menu just set the resolution to 2560x1440 instead of the native 3840x2160.
