I'll be selling my U2312HM for a Crossover 2720MDP, and my GTX 660 for either one of these. The models I'm looking at are the Windforce 290 and the G1 Gaming 970. Where I live the 970 costs ~500$ (US) and the R9 290 costs ~370$. I've already verified that my case (Corsair Carbide 300R) and PSU ( Seasonic S12-II 520W) are capable of containing and powering these GPUs.
Edit: Forgot to mention- the games I play aren't very demanding- Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, Borderlands 2 are the most demanding.

I use VSR to super resolute to 1440p, so AA isn't quite as important. I either turn it to minimal or at least lesser settings to take some of the load off my gpu, but it varies game to game. I'm a stickler, and if I can't run a game at high/ultra setting above an average of 45 fps (which is yet to happen on anything but DayZ) I'll tune it back to 1080p. The most taxing game I've ran is Far Cry 4. At 1440p and all ultra settings with AA at (I think) msaa, I averaged ~50 fps running out and about.

I'm able to play, so far, any game (Battlefield 4, Hardline, Metro Last Light, etc.) I've thrown at my Sapphire r9 290 at 1440p and hold an average of 50-60 fps. For the price, it is hard to beat. With a decent OC as well it is a fair competitor.

Thanks. At which settings, and how much AA?

Thank you so much! I am by no means such a perfectionist and don't mind running a game at medium so long as it looks good and runs over ~45 fps minimum. Which means, that the 290 should be enough for me for the next three-four years, by that time I'l build a new rig.

Thanks again!
