1440p medium-high settings vs 1080p ultra settings.

I'm planning on buying a 1440p G-sync monitor soon, and i noticed that in benchmarks, TW3 was averaging a little below 60fps @ 1440p w/ max settings on my GPU.

Obviously i can just turn the settings down a bit to get comfortably over that 60fps bar, but my questions is - Do you think it'd still look better than 1080p at ultra?

This isn't a decision i'm contemplating, i'll be getting this display as my 7700k/1070 needs more than a simple 1080@60hz monitor. I just want to know if i'll be getting a worse experience in the few games that i'll need to turn down settings.

Thanks.

Don't need any AA enabled at 1440p either IMO.
That can be as much as a 25% fps boost in some cases.

& even the 60fps lock seems to be many peoples standard requirement the fact is that anywhere above 50fps to me is barely noticeable.

At this moment on an old fx build I actually have my desktop set at 50htz so stuff locks at 50fps rather than dealing with 60fps with drops.

As said though - a gsync screen is entirely built around the premise of dealing with this for you.
Going to 1440p will look a lot better than 1080p even if you turn some settings down.
The frame rate dips shouldn't impact you if you are using G-Sync.
I have an Asus MG279Q 1440p monitor and there is no way I could go back to 1080p.

Look, PC means Personal Computer.
What graphics you play, or in your case, what resulotion fits you, is up to you.
I pesonally belive ultra 1080p>high 1440p, many people will disagree on that, but I cant help it, it just seems better at my eyes.

Your scenario is likely correct but if you can push 1440p at 144Hz on ultra settings there is no comparison. As madmatt stated, AA is really not needed but I have ran with AA and still maintained a high refresh.
I looked into 4k but the cost did not outweigh the benefit, still early tech, 1440p is the sweet spot for high end gaming.
