Hey,
I have recently bought a 1440p BenQ GW2765HT monitor that is capable of running at 1440p. The problem is, I do not have a PC right now, so I am just using my Alienware M14x laptop to connect to my monitors. Everything is setup, but in the screen resolutions the max resolution is only 1920 x 1080 when the monitor is capable of running at 2560 x 1440.

I just have a question. Is the monitor not running at 1440p because my GPU on my laptop is not good enough? For example, when I build my PC I will have a GTX 980. This should then run my monitor at 2560 x 1440 instead of 1920 x 1080, correct?

I will really appreciate your help! It will make me more secure...

I use HDMI for one and VGA for another
My display settings are on extended too

Is it because my VGA port is bottlenecking the HDMI and will not support 1440p? Or do I need to switch to DisplayPort for a higher resolution?

I tried that and it didn't work🙁

But lets say I build a new PC and get a GTX 980 graphics card. Will this change my resolution to 1440p? Like, is it because I have a bad graphics card in my laptop not good enough to support 1440p?
