1440p NO AA vs 1080p with AA ?

hey guys
so i have a 1080p monitor with GTX 770 SLI 4GB and i only use it for games

and i was wondering does it worth it to buy a 1440p monitor instead ? because if i buy a 1440p monitor i'm sure i have to lower the MSAA on games so OVERALL will i notice a big change ? will the graphic increase MUCH or just a little ?(based on the money i'm spending )

BTW both monitors are 60HZ

Depends on what you are viewing. 1080 AA will look better for game world scenes, but 1440 no AA would look better for text(MMOs and the like). With your setup I think you could run 1440 no problem with at least 4x MSAA in most games, which gives 90% of the effect.

Its a big pixel difference, so I would say that 1440p would still be better. It will be hard for me to show you without images, but the mythology is that rise resolution as high as display allows and drop quality and AA to compensate for lack of hardware power. 1440p display would make everything look better not just games.

It depends on a lot of factors. I suppose the 1440p monitor is ips? If that is the case, the colors will look a little better on it, but it will blur slightly when the screen pans. A lot of games are designed for 1080p. That said I myself run a 1440p monitor for games and I like it. I've also owned a 1920x1200 26" monitor. I have to say if I had to pick between resolution and AA I'd go for AA. I just like the look of it. The UI on a 1440p monitor can be a bit small (windows icons and text as well), so there's that as well.

My bottom line is if you play, mostly fast action games, like FPSes stick with your 1080p. If you play a lot of rpgs, rts, etc... get the 1440p (but try to run it with AA on.)

Wow, 770 SLI 4GB is total overkill for 1080p. With those cards, why do you think you'll have to lower the MSAA with 1440p? Even if you do have to lower or even disable AA on a few games, the noticeably higher pixel density in 1440p means you won't need to use high AA settings.

For an apples to apples comparison, a 27" 1080p has 82 ppi (pixels per inch), and a 27" 1440p has 109 ppi- a whopping 33% increase. Trust me- 1440p looks better at EVERYTHING. Also, 1440p uses IPS panels, which look far better than TN- better color, more contrast, deeper black levels.

Input lag, you're wondering? 120hz vs 60hz? Both are non-issues with the Korean models (Qnix, Catleap, Etc.) They use minimum electronics under the hood and are therefore overclockable, with little or no lag. Yes, you can OC Korean 1440p models to a higher refresh rate. Mine made it to 120hz, but the overall pic got noticeably darker, so I'm sitting comfortably at 96hz and it looks amazing. And I upgraded from a pretty good monitor: Dell U2412m IPS. My Qnix looks much better. Plus, who wouldn't want to game on a 27"?? $350 shipped on Amazon, sold the Dell on Ebay for $200. For me, it was worth every penny.

BTW, I'm running GTX 670 Gigabyte OC in SLI, only the 2GB version. Your cards are better than mine, so I see no reason to not go for it.

The black levels of IPS panels are usually described as dark gray, which is why they've gone out of favor for use in televisions (Cnet in particular hates IPS TVs). What they have on TN panels is two things: color accuracy, and viewing angle.

"Dark gray" is a huge exaggeration. There have been numerous reviews of the Qnix and no one has complained about the black levels. There is no disputing that overall, IPS looks better than TN, and that's why expensive monitors use IPS and $99 special, 23" displays use TN. I don't put a lot of stock in CNET, and one should really go by real-world experiences anyway (like I am) rather than relying on what they've read.

Well "the look" you're referring to is simply a lack of jaggies, which 1440p reduces greatly- thanks to a much higher pixel density, so higher levels of AA just aren't needed. Why you prefer software over resolution is beyond me... and most people use their monitors for everything, not just games. This doesn't need to be an either/or discussion; AA works on 1440p too.
