i currently run a gtx 970 with a cheap 1080p monitor. im upgrading to a gtx 1080 as soon as the board partner cards are out and i also want to buy a new monitor. im stuck between a 28 inch 4k and a 34 inch curved 3440x1440 monitor. i mostly play games like gta, dying light, and metro. should i go 1440 or 4k. i like the size of 1440 ultrawide, but i feel like im not taking a full step forward to 4k when the gtx 1080 can easily run it. thanks any help and model numbers would be great

Except it can't -- at least not maxed out.

Games are going to be more demanding as time goes on as well, so the 4k numbers we see today, are going to be pretty useless in the near future when other titles come out, that use better tech.

I'd say that 1440p is definitely the sweet spot, but not ultrawide. There's barely any support for ultrawide in games. They either look warped, or GUI is messed up in some way. There are third party patches usually, but out of the box, 16:9 is the way to go, considering it's the standard for everything that has to do with consumers, be it movies, games or TV.

All the best!
