Hi guys,

So I'm thinking of buying a new monitor because my AOC i2367fh does not do my PC justice. I'm tossing up between a 1440p IPS monitor like this and a 4k monitor like this. I think my one gtx 970 can run 1440p ultra or 4k medium on most games. So what is the better option? In terms of picture quality, gaming experience and other features and benefits? I would probably be buying in the next two or three months, will the situation change in that time? Also does the increased resolution realistically offer an improved experience worthy of the substantial price point?

What are your thoughts?
Thanks in advance guys :)

The higher the resolution, the better the picture will look, I would post a screenshot of my game, but I think you'll need a 4k display to see it's "true" clarity. I have no idea if the DSR is as good as a 4k display, but probably not, since I've never used it.
i don't see the value in the added cost right now. you can get a nice 4k monitor if you can afford it. then simply run it at 1440p for all the eye candy.

i have not seen any compelling reason to spend all the cash to game at 4k. the 970 is not going to offer that great of an experience at 4k from what i have seen. fps drops and such seem the norm unless you're running 2 of them.

i'm sure someone will come along and tell you that 4k at ultra low is a billion times better than 1440 at ultra but i'm bot buying it. you see the same thing each resolution upgrade. set your system to 1080p at medium and then 720 at ultra and see what the difference is. this was the dilemma people had a few years. same dilemma just different reolutions. unless you got a lot of cash to spend, it's wiser to give it some time and avoid the 4k gaming idea for a while .

Go to 1440p ultra if you want the best of both world, you'll get up to 144Hz if you have a monitor like that and plus 1440p, which is still better than 1080p. Also they're IPS, there are very few 4k IPS monitors. Now the most of all, you'll need to spend a lot of money to play 4k at a playable frame rate, so if you want your system to have enhanced graphics and also great gaming experience, go for 1440p, all you need is a 2nd 970 and your next 5 year 1440p ultra gaming is 100% guaranteed. 4k is a lot better in graphics of course, it just cost too much unless you are willing to spend 2-3 times more than what you are spending now.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. So does a higher resolution make all games look better? For example an older game like Modern Warfare or Grand Theft Auto IV where the textures aren't very detailed. And what about using Nvidia's dynamic super resolution to increase picture quality? How effective is this and is it worth the frame drop? Sorry for all the questions but this is an area I don't know much about.
