Price isn't much of a big deal, and I'd prefer to get Nvidia, but my question is, my monitor resolution is 1440x900, I may upgrade to a 24" monitor in a few months, what graphics card should I get?, I want the BEST possible performance, I'm getting a 750W PSU and the Antec 902 case, I would consider SLI if the performance is significantly better, I've been looking at the XFX GTX 295 which looks good, keep in mind price doesn't worry me too much, I just want the best performance I can get right now.
Intel Core i7-920 / 2.66GHz / 8MB Cache / LGA1366
Corsair TX-750 750W ATX Power Supply
Antec 902 Mid Tower Case
Asus P6T-DELUXE-V2 Intel Mainboard-6x DDR3/6x Sata Raid/Dual Gigabit Lan/LGA 1366
Corsair DDR3 6GB PC-12800/1600 (3x XMS3 2GB) TR3X6G1600C9 Ram
Those are the rest of the parts I've picked out, I'm pretty happy with them, it's just the graphics card that's giving me a headache.

EDIT:It might be helpful if I post what games I play:CoD4, CoD WaW, TF2, CSS, and that's all I play atm, but I'd like to play new releases at high settings with a great fps, and keep the machine futureproof.

But would a GTX 285 or 295 perform even better?.

The GTX 295 would perform better but at this resolution you wont notice any significant difference...you would just be wasting the graphics power of the GTX 295
If it was a 1920x1200 and above screen, then certainly I would suggest the GTX 295...but not for this resolution...
You wouldn't want to simply waste your money would you ?

The GTX 285 and the GTX 275 offer similar performance for resolutions upto 1900X1200...So no point wasting extra cash on the GTX 285...

So I would say stick with a single GTX 275 for now and when you change the monitor, add one more GTX 275 in SLI...

well IMO 4890 CF would be your best choice as they will cost about 429$ after mail in rebates but i didn't count the shipping.but there is only a problem that you will face is that you won't be able to TRI-CF because the space between the second slot and the third won't allow you to TRI_CF So IMO you should wait a little for the 4890x2 or get the gtx 295 so that you will be able to get another one in the future instead of changing the 2 cards

Edit: if you aren't going to change the monitor now then get a single 4890 not a single gtx 275 because the 4890 simply beats the gtx 275

^ Hmm...The 4890 CF is a good option...
As for GTX 295 SLI, by the time he would require more graphics power, there would be newer DirectX 11 card, which would cost considerably less giving better performance...
So would he still be hunting for another GTX 295 ? I doubt that...

+1 for the gtx 275 suggestion.

Of course get the GTX 295 if $500 is a just drop in the bucket. You also won't have to worry about the extra heat and fan noise with an SLI if you get one GTX 275 now and and another one for SLI later.

vote for the 4890.

itll run with a GTX275 stock, then destroy it once overclocked. and with 1Gb of video memory you wont ever need a second card at that resolution. If you get a new monitor then grab a second card if you feel you need it which i doubt. Either way, both are good cards, just depends on what features your board supports and whether you plan to overclock.

+1 on the HD4890. It will destroy any and all games at that resolution, and you can throw in another one later when you get your new monitor, or use any new cards that may come out before then.

+1 for the 275, then SLI later, the GTX295 will run hotter, and be harder to overclock because of heat. Having the 275 SLI will equal the performance of the 295, because that's what a 295 is, and the 295 atm would be overkill.

single 4890 oc'ed to 1ghz for now then when ATi's DX11 cards come out at pretty much the DX11 launch I would guess, then buy one of those as they will probably come to about 85% of the GTX 295's performance on a single GPU.

Yeah I'm looking at the GTX 285, probably will end up getting that. As I said I'd prefer Nvidia, and I can't wait for the 4890x2, I have to buy it before the end of June. What doe's everyone think of one GTX 285 now, and SLI later if I get a bigger monitor?

So SLi 275 beats SLi 285?. And before I forget, is 750W enough power for SLi 275?

The comparison chart that I had given before is between 1 GTX 275 and 1 GTX 285 and not 2x GTX 275 and 1 GTX 285...

And 1 GTX 275 is about $80 to $100 cheaper than 1 GTX 285...
Cheapest GTX 285 on newegg - $329
Cheapest GTX 275 on newegg - $229

And that Corsair 750W is more than suffice for 2x GTX 275...

I'm buying from centrecom.com.au, cheapest GTX 275:$393
cheapest GTX 285:$553. But as I said, 2 GTX 275's are $786, instead of 1 GTX 285 for $553. I'm a little confused. Any benchmarks for GTX 275 SLi vs single GTX 285?

Actually you can get maximum performance at that 1920x1200 resolution with 2x GTX 260 itself...
The GTX 295 and GTX 275/285 SLI is only required if you have a 30" monitor with 2560x1600 resolution

And spending anything above 2x GTX 275/ GTX 295 for that resolution is waste of money that could have been spent elsewhere...

Alright, so a GTX 275 then? or a 285?

For your current 1440x900 resolution, you can play most of the current games at the highest settings with the GTX 275...
When you change the monitor to a 1920x1200, you would be adding one more GTX 275 and still you will be playing at highest settings :p...
