Hello,
My specs are:
Windows 10
i7 6700k
gtx 1080
16gb RAM

my games are sometimes silk smooth 144hz/fps pubg, fornite and sometimes it becomes choppy for like 20s and then back smooth for 20s and it's alternating like that.

I tried to monitor to see what's happening but I didn't find anything strange, the temps are max 75°C for my gpu and max 55°C for my CPU.

Solution

BIOS voltage monitor, any of many tools like HW Monitor, etc.

Actually it shouldn't matter that it records at 60 FPS. In fact if you can capture the game averaging 60 FPS in gameplay, you have a better chance of it showing the gameplay just how it looks. Meaning best case scenario is less likely to skew the results. Capping recording to 30, or the gameplay FPS not staying at 60 when it's set to that, would more likely result in stutter just from recording lag.

For that kind of problem you want to monitor CPU/GPU usage ratio. Often times stutter is due to the CPU struggling. PUBG is a very CPU intense game, and though the 6700k can for the most part keep up with a 1080, in that game there may be a bit of a bottleneck.

Try running MSI Afterburner with CPU and GPU usage ticked for onscreen display (highlight them, check onscreen display below). If your CPU when this happens is very high usage and GPU normal usage, it's a bottleneck.

I also advise monitoring RAM and Page File. They'll both show under RAM, but sys RAM is listed first, then Page File next to it. I don't know how much Page File PUBG uses, but in GRW it runs as high as 8.5GB.

My sys Page File was set to 3GB, so I bumped it up to 9GB. RAM and Page File work closely together with the CPU to store rendering data before it is sent to the GPU, so it is very important to monitor it.

I used to have microstutter in Ghost Recon Wildlands with my i7-950, 7970, and 8GB RAM. Now with a i7-8700k, and 16GB 3200 RAM upgrade, I can not only run it on High vs Medium settings at same FPS, there's no microstutter anymore.

I did the monitoring and this is what I get as result.
The first part is pubg on ultra settings fps between 100- 144
The second part is pubg on very low settings same fps.

CPU usage never reaches 50% in ultra it is even higher on very low.
I had full stutter all the game long in both settings.

Sounds like you were implying you posted a link to something, but you didn't.

Anyways, stuttering can also be power related. Check to see if your PSU voltage is stable, especially the 12+ rail/rails.

I also prefer to see a video example. I've seen many people claim on forums they have severe stutter, only to see a video example that shows none.

How can I check if my PSU voltage is stable ?

I tried to capture gameplay but you cant see the difference between smooth and choppy since it records at 60 fps.
