Question 144hz and laptop

I have a lenovo legion y520 and an ASUS vg278he. The laptop has hdmi, usb c and mini display port while the monitor only has dvi, hdmi, vga (no display port). Which cable/adapter would i need to successfully get anything above 75hz (120hz is fine). I also dont mind turning my resolution down to get my desired refresh rate as i play on a low resolution for csgo anyways. Thanks in advance!

why do you play on low resolution wtf
but,
you say both the monitor and laptop have hdmi
an hdmi cable can do 144hz 1440p easily
but, a usb-c to hdmi can work too

try swapping the cable to a newer one, or the one that came in the monitors box.
maybe the hdmi port on the laptop is old and doesnt support hdmi 1.4 or 2.0 or whatever
but a mini display port/usb-c will definetly be able to do that

alright so a usb-c to dvi adapter would work?

no, dvi does not support high refresh rate.
