Hi everyone! I've been reading everything touching on this problem here and on other forums but haven't been able to find a definitive answer. I'm planning to build my first gaming PC this november and I've decided on most of the components except the monitor. I'm planning on going with the GTX 1060 because if fits my budget and is priced only a little bit higher than the RX 480, at least in my country... I'm hoping to play mostly newest AAA titles, but some older games also at 1080p. At my workplace we use 144Hz monitors (for some reason) and it's a world of difference over my old, low res 19", 60Hz display, though i haven't played any games on those monitors. I'm planning on getting either the BenQ Gaming XL2411Z or the ASUS Gaming VG248QE. They're priced the same and seem to be decent choices for my budget but I still have a few questions:
1) Firstly I'm fully aware that the GTX 1060 won't even get near 144fps even in older games so my main problem is if I'm going to experience things like tearing, stuttering or other things that could affect my gaming experience if i'm only hitting 50 - 70 fps? (i also want my games to look good so i'm not willing to compromise and lower settings too much just to get 100+fps)
2) Am I better off just getting a 60Hz monitor so that I won't get those kinds of problems? If I do get a 60Hz, will i be more satisfied with an IPS display given that i'm already using a monitor with 5ms response time and i'm having no problem with higher response time?
3) I'm also planning to get a PS4 (mainly for the exclusives and sports games) and I would like to hook it to the same monitor through HDMI. I know the console will get no benefit from the increased refresh rate but i don't want to get another monitor for it and I still want it at my desk. My question is if i'm playing on my PC and have the PS4 connected through HDMI and turned on will that mean that my PC video output will automatically switch to lower refresh rate to accomodate both the computer and the console?
4) Will both DisplayPort or DVI-D get me the 144Hz, or only one of them?
I really want to make the best possible choice here given that the money is tight and the return policies are rubbish in my country so I don't want to regret my purchase. I'm grateful for any advice you can give me...
