Hi all

I currently have 2560x1080p 75 hz monitor, my pc specs are ryzen 2200g/Gtx 1660/16gb 3200mhz/Msi b450 tomahawk. I’m currently getting around 45/60 fps when gaming on low settings. I’m thinking of upgrading my cpu but would upgrading my monitor to 144hz or 165hz get me more fps? I find sometimes my game stutters/lags is that because of the resolution and refresh rate?

I read up that your CPU tells your GPU to render a large number of objects at once—your PC draws fewer frames per second. So would upgrading my cpu be a better option for now?

Your issue is more gpu related. True the cpu asks the GPU to draw the frames but each GPU is only capable of drawing so many at a time. A 1660 is fine for most 1080p but your wide screen is just too much for the GPU to keep up with.

So look into a new GPU. A 6600xt or even a 6700xt or Nvidia equivalent would be ample.

Thank you for your reply. That makes a lot of sense regarding the gpu. If I got a 1920x1080p 144hz monitor with my computer specs would I be able to achieve 144fps on the games which I’m currently getting low fps?

Depends on the game and settings. Many AAA games need more horsepower. Honestly I'd get a new GPU before a new monitor. I have a 1650 super with a 144 hz screen and sometimes it gets there. Other times it dips below 100. I'd not be confident you'd max 144 hz every time in every game

That makes sense alot of games are different. So I guess the gpu is a better option. What about bottleneck? If I went to a Nvidia 3070/Amd 6700 with a ryzen 3 2200g would it work?

Would work fine together. Cpu might be a bit weak for the gpu but that only means the card might not be asked to do as much as it could. But it will still work well.

People talk about "bottleneck" like the system just won't turn on. But that's not true. Just means one piece might not be asked to do as much as it could. But it all still runs as it should.
