144hz Monitor Only Displaying 60hz! Please Help!

Hello, I recently purchased an acer GN246HL monitor and I'm using an HDMI 1.4 to DVI dual-link adapter to connect my Lenovo Legion Y520 Laptop to it. I've tried many different cables and the monitor says the HDMI is outputting 120hz (which is all I need and in fact what i'm trying to get) but it says the DVI input to the monitor is only 60hz. Looked everywhere for a solution and I can't seem to find one. Anyone know how to fix this? Any help is appreciated!

Have you gone into Display settings and manually set the display you want to 144 MHz?
