So here's the thing. I bought an ASUS XG27VQ ROG monitor.
I have GTX 1070 Gigabyte and Win 10. I'm using a DisplayPort cable. I changed the HZ settings of the monitor (advanced display settings > display adapter properties etc..) and I changed the settings in the Nvidia control panel to 1920 x 1080 @144 HZ and I'm still stuck at 60HZ while gaming. In desktop mode, the refresh rate is 144, but when I go in a game it's capped at 60. I tried a couple of games but none of them have a Vsync option to turn off. So what am I doing wrong here?

Make sure your nvidia control panel or gforce experience isn't capping your refresh rate.
Most of the time they have very strange default configurations in the gforce experience imo.

Go to your Nvidia control panel and there manage 3D settings. Take a look and see if you can find V-sync from there and turn it off. Also look for "Preferred refres rate", I believe default is set to "Application-controlled", you can change it to "Highest available" and see if that helps.
