144hz monitor troubles

I just got the ASUS VG248 monitor and it has a 144hz refresh rate but when I check the refresh rate it's on;y at 60, I don't know how to fix this I have an AMD HD 7870 graphics card

Go to monitor settings and look for refresh rate. Buttons on monitor will take you to settings. How did you checked ?

I cant find the refresh rate in the monitor's menu...

I checked the monitor settings and there's nothing about refresh rate, also the driver disc it came with only has nvidia drivers on it.

I disable the vertical refresh in the catalyst control center but that did nothing, there's an option for 75hz but that drops my resolution, I have an AMD card and that doesn't have the v-sync that i think you're talking about

V-sync and G-sync are 2 different things. Some games have fixed refresh rate to prevent lower end build from working to hard. How do you monitor your refresh rate?
