Hi everyone. I've come to a dilemma with my new build and could use an answer with an added why you chose it if possible please and thank you in advance.

I have narrowed down my monitor to a choice of two.

Either the:

Asus ROG Swift PG278Q 27" GSync 144Hz monitor 2560x1440

or the

Acer Predator 4K2K XB280HK 28" GSync 60Hz monitor 3840x2160

I hear 144Hz is spectacular and so is the option of having 4k resolution so which do I go with and why?

I am adjustable on my graphics choice aswell as I have yet to commit as I want to pick the right setup to match the monitor I'd either go:

2x Nvidia GTX 970 GIGABYTE G1 Gaming in SLI or

2x Nvidia GTX 980 Palit Jet stream in SLI

but I'd rather not spend out on two 980's If you don't think the extra cost is worth it over the 970's.

Also the quieter the better!

The choice between 144Hz or 4K is very subjective. People into competitive multiplayer games enjoy the responsiveness and speed of a 144Hz monitor, but a 4K monitor at 60Hz can provide a very nice quality image for slower single player games, assuming you have the hardware to drive either. In the end, it is something you pretty much have to choose on your own. The ROG Swift is a good compromise, though, since it has a 1440p resolution instead of 1080p, giving you a bit better image quality. The downside is that the cost is a bit high, and getting hardware to drive 1440p at 144Hz is hard, but G-Sync should help with that.

As for the graphics card choice, that's a bit simpler. The 980's are not that much faster than the 970's, and given that you could pretty much buy three 970's for the price of two 980's, the 970's are a much better value proposition. I'd personally go with the 970's then, since the 980's won't make that huge of a difference.

As for the quietness of the configuration, that is really up to what graphics card cooler you choose and what else you have in your system. I'd read up on a few reviews to get an idea of what coolers are recognized for being quieter if that is a priority.

A human eye cant tell the difference ...a person with a superior experience with monitor who used 144 for quite a while can tell a difference if he gets down to 60 that too only in gaming.. We wouldnt usually see much difference in everyday computing between 60 and 144.. Aside if your gpu cant output 144 frames of gaming.. U may see screen tearing. I would go for 4k monitor with dual 970 .. If u have the required budget go for dual 980...

Depends on your max budget, go for 970 SLI and the Swift if you want to go with the cheap option. 4k will require more, if you really want 4k, you should wait for the new GPUs, get two of those and you'll be good to go.

If this comes out at a relatively good price point (I suspect it will be quite high) then this really throws a spanner in the works! Now I've got to measure the space that my monitor sits in and see if it will take this beast.
