Earlier this week I started a thread about the exact same thing until I got about 30 replies from people talking about something completely different. I wanted to know about what I need to do to achieve 144hz on my new monitor and people just started talking about HDMI 1.3 and 1.4 differences... ughghghhghghg!

Please help me!

I have a GN246HL from Acer and it only supports 144hz on DVI-D The monitor has a DVI-D port, HDMI (No idea about version) and a VGA (Ugh... Yuck!)

My GPU has 3 DP outputs and a HDMI output

This is a pain in the arse because I dont know if I should return the gpu or buy a decent adapter.

I am really confused and would be helped from a simple answer with what I need to buy no a load of fancy words to show of your nerd side.

Any help is appreciated

Ok... is seems that you need a display port to DVI-D (dual-link) adapter... the key words being dual-link. single link will be limited.

But as cliffro said above, these are expensive and probably not worth it. (all of the cheap ones you find online are actually only single link).

The problem is I don't know which to buy because hardly any say if they support 144hz and half that say what they do only support 60hz

Its a 1080p monitor. HDMI on it is probably limited to 60hz regardless if his video cards supports newer versions. He'd need an active adapter, and they run $80+ for actual Dual Link DVI adapter needed for 144hz.

If its new(GPU) and within 30 days, I'd return it and get one with a DVI-D DL port. if they are at the same price points or within a close range, its still cheaper than an active adapter.

I'm not 100% certain on the actual cable used, but a guy with that monitor reported using DP-HDMI cable allowed 144hz

I know this thread is old but I just got the AcerGN246HL myself and I have a cable that is HDMI to DP (hdmi side plugs into monitor, dp side plugs into graphics card) and when I use the cable it does in fact allow me to run 144hz.

So that may be a more viable option. But depending on shipping costs and purchase date returning the GPU for one with a DVI port may be the best bet for an actual working solution with no guesses on the cable.

The only 470's I see with no DVI are Reference models....most if not all aftermarket/custom versions have DVI.
