So, I'm using 2 32" 1080p 60hz monitors atm. THey are WAY too big, have a ton of backlight bleed, bad MS, color is off. Basically they suck.
So I've been looking for an upgrade, and I started at 1440p 144hz.

The issues, it seems like a decent one of those is running upwards of 400 bucks.

So, ASSUMING I gave up 1440p OR 144hz, which would you prefer to have? I have NO experience in any context of either.

I've never seen a 1440p screen, I've never seen a screen with more than 60 hz. So, for me. I have no idea.

Any every single post I see devolves into "GET BOTH".

Can't afford both. Can afford one. Which would YOU prefer, if you had to pick between the 2. 1440p 60hz or 1080p 144hz.

Answering 1440p 144hz is the cowards way out, and I will shame you in my mind.

I'd personally take 144 Hz when given a simple choice, but as Matt notes above, 1080p is generally going to look crappy in a monitor that large, no matter what the resolution.

Questions to always ask in this scenario.

What is your main use? If you use for shooters like battle royales, both 2K and high refresh rate help in different ways.

Are you sure your components are optimal for both options? (my GTX 1080 gets 120 frames but runs 81C with 2K)

Do you care about monitor size? I use a 24" 2k 144hz monitor I swear by since I knew I was going to be semi-close to my screen, and view distance matters when figuring out that size. Also cheaper for smaller.

Do you care about panel tech? I use a TN panel since it has the fastest response time and cheapest, at expense of better color for photo editing, experience, etc I guess but looks great.

Agreed may be tough to get 144 hz at 2k but should be some options in the $200 range that are gaming oriented, some of my friends seem to have found some with MSI or something but mine was one it looks like Dell scrapped in the 300 range since they force you to get the 165hz version now: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IOO4SGK?tag=rtings-mn-p-20&ie=UTF8

this one is a biggy, no point getting 144hz if your PC can't actually achieve it. Sure, it gives room to improve but if you don't intend to buy better PC in the next few years, you might as well get a bigger image size.

I went with both but I know not everyone can afford it. YouTube now thinks I want a 44inch Oled TV as a monitor but its wrong. I only got a 1440p monitor last Friday, way too soon for a new one :)

If you esports game at high level. Competitive then 144hz 25inch 1080p is a no brainer.

If you just chill and like more immersion 1440p 60hz is your choice.

I have gamed at the highest levels on 30hz, 60hz, 144hz. And I'm now going to try 240hz. I'll say with utmost confidence I'd never go back to 60hz once trying 144hz, its like night and day.
