I was reading the review of some of the latest LCD panels that boast faster ms rise and fall speeds. I don't know what the reason is for such a wait, but I purchased my 19" LCD panel about 8 months ago and it has a 15 ms rise, 10 ms fall. That along with a 500:1 contrast ratio, it does it's job well. The only thing that might bother some people about LCD's is their ability to display pure black. I can tell when booting up that the black cmos background has a "washed" look to it. But, when all os booted, colors are just fine.
I saw some comments in other threads about not using LCD's for web or photo type work. Well, I use mine for CAD and for WEB as I host my own site. I have no complaints. I just wished I could have a 16:9 ratio since it is more applicable with what I do. For those of you that still claim CRT's are the way to go and think I have no sound reasoning, I will have to let you know right now that I have roughly 10 years behind CRT's and my last 2 crt's were of highest quality boasting .22mm dot pitch and refresh/res rates of up to 120 hz/2048x1600 with one being a 21" curved monitor and the other a 19" Flat screen.
I can honestly say that I have a difficult time using my 21" now as it seems deeply distorted at the corners (not flat screen) and my 19" flat crt is Good, but again...it is only 18" viewable screen. So, I can safely say that I am 99.9% satisfied with my Planar CT1904N. That 1% dissatisfaction is due to the fact that I have to set my resolution to it's highest rate at 1280x1024. Which I cannot really complain about since I wouldn't run anything less anyway. However, If running at the lower resolutions, the graphics seem "fuzzy" and very weird. Once I set it to the max, then it is crisp and clear as any crt I have seen.
Again, the only true upgrade that would benefit this monitor, would be to have a 700:1 contrast ratio making it equivelant with most CRT's and the ability to display pure black. If anyone is interested they can see the specs at the following: http://www.planar.com/monitors/CT1904N.asp
I bought mine for about $975 at Insight.com . I have yet to see it that low again but you might have some luck finding it.

what CAD app are you using?
i'm looking for an LCD and primarily use autocad though i'm starting to use revit. (black background vs white in each app respectively)
