Like I said, I'm a noob. This is my first time actually so be gentle. I've been looking forward to building this PC for over a year. My current rig is a descent laptop, but since it's a laptop it's limited and wont last much longer. I already have all the peripherals I'll need and I'm looking to upgrade my monitor to a 144hz 1440p not long after building the computer.

I'm looking for a build that will last me awhile and have some room to upgrade in the future. As a benchmark I would like to run Wither 3 at 60fps 1440p without hairworks as I hear that's exceptionally taxing.

I've done a little research and realized I'm not experienced enough to pick all the parts for a computer on my own. I would like to use a MSI GTX 980TI as my GPU, and have room to add a second one in the future. But the thing is I don't know exactly what boards would be able to do that well. And I don't know if I should get an i5 or an i7. I hear i5 is just fine as it is now, because not many games take advantage of the extra cores, but that they may in the future. So which should I go for? I don't know what caliber of cooling I'll need either, or which cases would be best for my hardware. I'd like my OS to be on an SSD for light speed booting, and I don't need a ton of HDD space either as I have a very large external drive where I keep almost everything non-gaming related.

As you can see I need some help, and it's appreciated.

Pascal isn't projected until late Q1 or Q2 2016. Why ever bother buying a gpu at all with that logic? There will always be a better one like 6 months later.

sigh...

Approximate Purchase Date: Next month or so.

Budget Range: $1500-2000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming > Watching Shows/Anime > Surfing

Are you buying a monitor: Yea, but after the build. My current monitor is good enough to last a couple months after the build until I save up another 500-700 bucks.

Parts to Upgrade: My current rig is a laptop, and I'm trying to build a desktop, so I can't really salvage anything except the peripherals.

Do you need to buy OS: Yes. Windows 10.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg, amazon, whatever is cheap and reliable really.

Location: USA, Kansas. I live close to Wichita.

Parts Preferences: Don't really care. I have an nvidia gpu in my laptop and I kinda like the nvidia control panel thing but I wouldn't miss it that much.

Overclocking: Maybe. I'm not savvy yet so I'm not sure if I should.

SLI or Crossfire: This means dual GPUs right lol? If so, yes, I would like the option for dual GPUs in the future, but it's not something I'm focusing on right now. I've been looking at and heard that the MSI 980TI is a very strong GPU in its class so I'd like to have the option to add a second one to my rig in the future.

Your Monitor Resolution: Currently 1080p 60hz, but I'm looking to upgrade to 1440p 144hz.

Additional Comments: I would prefer a quiet PC but it's not a huge deal, as long as it's not seriously breaking immersion. Software I'm using is games and pretty standard gaming stuff like comms clients and game clients, your average stuff.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Because I want to keep playing games. And I heard all the E chicks dig sick rigs.

All white/black theme, you know, for the ladies. Can support a second 980 ti with the 1000w PSU and mobo. Quality and power all around. Top of budget.

He wants the option to add another 980 ti later. 1000w is perfect for that and it fits budget. The minimum recommendation is 900w for 2x 980 ti sli overclocked. I stated in my first line of my post "Can support a second 980 ti with the 1000w PSU and mobo.". Read stuff first.

Plus 550w is below NVIDIA's 600w recommendation for that card. That is not even accounting overclocking. Why even recommend that for a $2000 budget build. It is better to run a psu at 50% load, not 80%...

You're a hero m8. Now all that's left is waiting for it to get here and putting it together without catching my house on fire.

Me and all my future hunnies are very grateful.
