Case and Operating System are more of a personal preference so I'll leave those open for you to decide. I can suggest a case if you want though.

For cases I personally have
http://newegg.com/Product/index?itemNumber=N82E16811119263
A lot of people like NZXT Phantoms, Cooler Master HAF series, Fractal Design R4.
I personally like the look of the Thermaltake Commander and Chaser.

I changed the GPU to the 4GB version because you may need the extra VRAM before you plan to upgrade, BF4 already requires 3GB and I can imagine that more games will start to need it pretty soon. If you would rather save the money go for the 2GB version.

I also added windows to the parts list, if you prefer windows 8 you can change it.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6994/nvidia-geforce-gtx-770-review

If he's gonna be playing DiRT Showdown, Hitman or Sleeping Dogs then the 7970 would be better for the price, but its better everywhere else, I have a 7970 GHz and I recommend it any time it fits, in this case a 770 is a better option.

The performance gap does vary between reviews but generally speaking the 770 is better so that's what I chose. Although I do love my 7970 and would happily agree with it if the OP decides he wants it. However I disagree with the ASUS because Sapphire, gigabyte and xfx have better prices.
