looking to build myself a really nice gaming computer and want to hear what you guys think about this layout and if all parts are compatable and any inputs you have would be much appreciated

WD black is a waste of money, go for a Samsung spinpoint F3, it is the same performance for half the price. the i7 is overkill for your needs, drop down to i5-2500k if OCing and i5-2400 if not OCing. with this extra money you could get a better PSU and SSD. DON'T GET A CHEAP PSU, YOU WILL REGRET IT.

you can get a better screen, just look at how much you want to pay... price done with XFX psu (rebranded seasonic) so IMO that is a great deal. if you can get this GPU, GET IT @ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121467&cm_re=GTX_580_ASUS-_-14-121-467-_-Product anything i have missed?

EDIT: do you have a screen or not? just realized the monitor res. thing but you do not say if you need a screen or not... also do you need an OS? if not that will save you about $220, that might give you enough to bump up to the GTX 590, which IMO will be GREAT

oops, NO SSD, i knew i was missing something... if you need an SSD, an entry level one will suffice, use the money you saved from not getting that screen (if you already have one)

and the reason i chose the 2 GPU's is i was told that combined they would outpreform the 580 and 90's

but bear in mind, two 580s/ 590s down the line will beat the dual 6870, sure they'll give the 580 a run for its money, but you can't upgrade it later. anyways, it is personal pref, are you going to get a new computer when this one starts lagging or will you upgrade?

Wenqi, pretty spot on advice. However, I would say go dual 6950's. Why? They will smoke a single 580 and cost just a bit more.

Granted you lose the upgrade path, but I bet 80% of the people on here never end up adding another. Plus, dual 6950's are a pretty damn good deal IMO.

And I would suggest a Gigabyte Z68X before the Extreme4, simply price/features.

if you are than go with my original build, that doesn't have a SSD in it so add this if you can, @ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233188 entry level SSD but IMO it is enough, if you have the extra money go for sand force SSD, even entry level of those will be enough (IMO). the z68x is a nice board, even the cheapest one gives you nice features, IMO get this, supper cheap and offers SLI and SSD @ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128500&cm_re=gigabyte_z68x-_-13-128-500-_-Product

Not for your budget. NO way. The features it offers (mainly the NF200 chip) won't help with your rig. For an uber powerful tri SLI rig, maybe. Stick with under $180 or so boards. More than that doesnt make sense.

aww, but thats a nice red... and you can get like fifty cards in there, imagine that quad SLI GTX 590!!! or quad Xfire 6990s!! how many years will that see you through? (BTW i want to be around when people start saying "1 tb, thats nothing!) but enough of the "joking around" that mobo is open box, so i would stay away from it.

NOTE: can you get quad SLI? on my card (GTX 560ti) it only says dual SLI support

Yes, quad SLI can be done. However, it's totally not practical, it's like getting 4 spare tires instead of one "just in case".

Yeah, it's quad SLI. Probably a bad analogy. I was trying to say the extra 2 cards in the config would be left to flounder, with virtually no workload.
