Hey I'm just looking for some help and opinions on my 1500$ build. Originally I was going to go for the i5 9600k, but was uneasy because I heard some people have troubles with it on z370 boards. I hope you guys with more experience in building can help me change/add to my list in a way that benefits me most. I want to color coordinate my build too, dark purple if possible with Leds/internal case color. I may overclock a bit but it isn't a priority to have the highest clock speeds. I already purchased the GPU but everything else can be edited.

Case: Undecided
PSU: EVGA 850W (89.99)
CPU: I5 8600K (269.99
GPU: MSI Gaming X 1080 (389.95) Purchased Used
Mobo: EVGA Z370 FTW (119.99)
Ram: Vengeance 3000MHz 16gb (134.99)
SSD: 970 Evo (147.99)
Cooling: Undecided
Accessories: Undecided
Software: Windows 10

I made this build for you, it's under your budget and follows the purple colour scheme you wanted.

  • • Gave you a Ryzen 7 2700x, Ryzen performs better than Intel in productivity and still has really good performance in games. The stock cooler it comes with is great, provides excellent cooling and looks pretty nice with customisable RGB (can fit your colour scheme). This guy overclocked his CPU to 4Ghz with it. I'd highly recommend getting Ryzen, it'll save you money from not needing to buy a CPU cooler and performs better than Intel in everything other than games (still performs fine in games though).
    • Very nice case with good reviews. the white colour should look really nice with your purple RGB.
    • Fast DDR4 3200 RAM since Ryzen benefits from fast ram, I'm pretty sure the RGB is customisable.
    • The PSU is 850W gold certified and fully modular. 850W is overkill, but it was cheap and had good reviews.
    • Plenty of storage, fast SSD.
With your leftover money, you could just save it if you want. Or you could invest in something like a better SSD, more case fans, etc. More case fans could be a good idea since you might be overclocking.

If you want you could get the NZXT H500i, it's slightly more expensive than the normal H500 I have in your build but comes with a few extra features like built in LED strips, this article goes over the extra features well.

If there's anything else you want or something you want changed, just ask.

Made a few changes, added a better cooling if you overclock you will need it, also a better motherboard for the same pourpose. ;)

For the OS you dont really need to buy there, google online for cheap licenses, for 25$ you can buy one.

Okay but why AMD? It has more threads and cores but arent they generally useless? I use a 144hz 1080p monitor and to take advantage of it wouldn't an intel build make more sense as it handles gaming better? The only multitasking I will be doing will consist of one to three desktops, up to 15 chrome tabs, netflix and a game like pubg or rainbow six (usually run games with everything else closed anyways)

Will I see a noticeable difference between the two outside of gaming? What everyday applications will the AMD perform better in
