My question is, with an R9 390, would it be more beneficial to get a 16:9 1440p 27 inch monitor (hopefully 144hz and IPS) or a 21:9 1440p 34 inch monitor (also with 60+ refresh rate and ips panel) and if I do go with the 21:9, should I upgrade my graphics card to either crossfire 390's or a new single gpu such as 1080 ti or the next line up of AMD cards (possibly vega). 60+ refresh rate and an ips or good tn panel is also huge in considering a monitor. Currently I haven't been gaming much (less than 10-15 hours a week) but when I do, it varies quite a bit from League of Legends to GTA V to Dark Souls 3 to Battlefield 1 and more. I mainly use the computer for web browsing and watching shows/movies but I also like the extra fps and details in games for when I do game. My question is what do you think is the best option for me and what your setup is and what you do with it.

I think the question is which ratio do you really want, 16:9 or 21:9. I can't tell you exactly how well a 390 will play 21:9, but what I can tell you is that I have a GTX 980ti and a 3440x1440 21:9 and I don't have any problems at all.

The other thing to remember and consider is that you would probably keep a monitor a lot longer than any graphics card. So you want to make the right choice. The 16:9 1440p is a step towards 4K 16:9. You're going to see the same gameworld just with smaller dots. Where a 21:9 is a different view of the world entirely.

Finally 21:9 34" monitors are large. My one took up up half the desk due to the tripod stand. Wall mounting it moved it back and now the whole screen fills my FOV without haven't to flick...
