I want to get a new monitor for my pc, I will be doing mostly gaming so I simply searched ''gaming moitors''. I found this one http://www.newegg.com/global/uk/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014375&cm_re=BenQ_XL2720Z_27-inch_LED_Gaming_Monitor-_-24-014-375-_-Product I saw it was 1920x1080 and I never really understood what that meant, so I did some research. i found out that apparently 1920x1080 is 16:9 and is commonly used on tv's and that computer monitors oftern use 1920x1200. should I get a 16:10 (1920x1200) monitor instead? Also this may sound a bit nooby but is 1920x1080, 1080p?

Solution
If you do more on gaming and movie, 16:9 is the way to go. All other usage scenarios a 16:10 makes most sense because with 16:10 you have more vertical area that's really beneficial while you do web browsing bcz you need to scroll down a web page less often when compared to 16:9 short monitors.
16:9 is the ratio used for films and is better for streaming videos or movies, it's also the more common aspect ratio for pictures and form-based applications or GUIs.

I prefer 16:9 myself, but the benefit of 16:10 is that you get more workspace. It's helpful if you do a lot of photo/video editing, or 3D rendering, game design, computer programming, web design, etc. I wouldn't get one just for Facebook and video games. The best route if you have the money is to have a 16:10 monitor and another 16:9 TV for videos that you can stream to.

To answer your question 1920x1080 is what is know as 1080p on TV's. That monitor you picked out is a really good one. I have the 24" version of that monitor. 1920x1200 is a little bit of a step up from 1080p and would be referred to in the TV world as 1200p if that ever existed for TV's. 1200p would obviously be a better picture quality cause it would display more pixels on the screen.

It's really a matter of preference. 1920x1200 will deliver more pixels to the screen which in turn will be more demanding of the hardware you have. I personally still use 1920x1080 at 144hz. There is not a huge noticeable difference from 1080p to 1200p. If you are looking for a huge improvement in the visual quality I would be looking at 4k monitors.

I'm just going to say, don't blow that much money on a monitor just because it says it's a "gaming" monitor.. If you really want a 144hz or 120hz monitor, you can get one for like $200 USD cheaper. And for that price you could get a good 1440p monitor, too
