16 GB out of 32 GB of my ram is hardware reserved

My MOB Asus z-97 pro wifi ac offers dual channel ram. I have filled it with 4x8 GB all of them Corsair sticks that match the requrements for the MOB. My BIOS says that there are 32GB ram installed. Windows says the same but only 16 GB is usable. Only 2 out of 4 slots are being used. It says that 16GB i hardware reserved. Sounds to me unreasonable. I've updated and reset the BIOS to default, switched each dimm to a different slot, unchecking the "maximum amount of ram" box in msconfig, enabled ram remapping, and of course I'm using windows 10 pro 64 bit!
Please help me figure it out.

I think you should check this thread. It seems there is some compatibility or installation order issue.

However, the suggestions in this thread are still worth trying.

want the unfortunate answer? Turn on ECC in memory config. No clue why thiis is necessary with some kits but my 32gb was showing up 90% of the time as 24gb w/ 8 reserved. Turned on ECC and it was all back gg
